Dantooine has several continents spread all over the planets surface; there is an equatorial one that is connected to a larger northern one and a south polar one by slender land bridges as well as a disconnected north-eastern continent. Dantooine is a rather remote planet, far from the bustle of the trade routes. With two moons and a collection of large plains and savannah, Dantooine remains a quiet and peaceful planet for the most part, despite its history.

During the time of the Old Sith Wars, the Galactic Republic began a full-scale colonization campaign on Dantooine. Although there were no military forces on the planet, the settlers were protected by the Jedi Order. Ruins of many Jedi structures still remain scattered on Dantooine, with the most recent are those of the Jedi Training Enclave which was established by Master Vodo-Siosk Baas. This enclave was destroyed along with many of Dantooine's other settlements by Darth Malak in a planetary bombardment. This attack led to a decay in the Dantooine farming community and Dantooine was occupied by the Sith.
Years later, the settlers of Dantooine began to rebuild their community, led by Administrator Terena Adare who created the outpost of Khoonda. By this point, most of Dantooine had become populated by mercenaries and salvagers, hoping to make a profit from the Jedi relics left scattered amongst the ruins.
